Welcome to Grilled Cheese Engineering!
At the time of writing, we are not ready to sell anything yet so we would like to introduce who we are and what our goal is.
Who are we?
Grilled Cheese Engineering consists of Josh KK6JDC and Lucas KO6LBA, two 11th graders in Northern California. We are both licensed radio amateurs in the United States and aspiring electrical engineers. We made a GitHub organization for our hardware projects and decided to start this website under the same name. Check it out here: https://github.com/Grilled-Cheese-Engineering
We are against using A.I. to help design our products and we prefer to do everything ourselves or ask real engineers for advice while designing our boards.
All of our hardware is fully open source on GitHub under GNU GPL V3 Licenses. We are working on getting our projects certified by OSHWA (Open Source Hardware Association) as open-source hardware.
How did we choose our name?
We are called Grilled Cheese Engineering because of an inside joke revolving around grilled cheese. When we were coming up with a name for our GitHub organization, we tried to think of something unique and because of the circumstances at the time, that is what we landed on.
Why are we selling our projects even though they are open source?
We are selling our projects online for a couple of reasons.
- It supports the development of new pieces of hardware (R&D)
- We can get you great hardware for cheaper than if you buy it all yourself (and with less hassle)
- Some of the profits could go towards funding our college educations eventually
Our products will be sold at the smallest margin we can to where we still make a reasonable amount profit. Overall, ordering from us will be cheaper than ordering all of the parts used in our projects separately as we order parts in bulk so we can sell our products for cheaper.
It’s a win-win situation for everyone!
What products are launching first?
We have two products launching soon. We plan to offer both kit and pre-assembled options for both pieces of hardware and optional 3D printed cases. Expect more news on these products by the mid to late November.
Fox Hunt Offset Attenuator V2
First up is the Fox Hunt Offset Attenuator V2 designed by Josh. This is an offset attenuator based off of John KC9ON’s original Offset Attenuator design. The kit is expected to sell for around $15, and the fully assembled board will be around $25. Check out the repository here: Fox Hunt Offset Attenuator GitHub

Micro Keyer
Finally, we have the Micro Keyer made by Lucas. This is a morse code practice oscillator and computer keyer that is very portable and has the ability to key a radio. It will probably be sold for around $50. Check out the repository here: micro-keyer GitHub
